The 20-year-old Prithvi Shaw had a fantastic Test debut as he became the second-youngest Test centurion from India before an ankle injury and a failed dope test kept him out for 16 months.

But this was the time when the former India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar came into the picture and started mentoring Shaw to help him deal with life on 22 yards and off it during a rough patch.

“Yes, it's true. I have had a number of interactions over the years with Prithvi. He is a very talented player and I am happy to help him. I spoke to him about cricket and also about life beyond the cricket field,” Tendulkar said while talking to PTI.

When asked about the discussions the duo had in these multiple interactions, the 47-year-old did not reveal what they discussed as he felt that an element of confidentiality is attached to it.

“I believe if a youngster has approached me and sought guidance, there should be an element of confidentiality attached to it, at least from my side. So, I would not like to tell you what the discussions were,” he said.

The 20-year-old, on the other hand, has talked about the guidance from the legendary batsman in recent times. “That's fine. If Prithvi wants to speak about it, it's his choice.”

Tendulkar also went on to say that he is always open to guiding youngsters who would seek him out individually.
