England pacer James Anderson will be auctioning his autographed shirt, bat and a wicket from the most-recent Test he played in Cape Town to help raise funds in order to continue the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
Since originating in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, the deadly outbreak has infected more than 27 lakh people, claiming 1.8 lakh lives.
"We are auctioning this lot off on eBay for @gowellfund. My shirt and stump from the last Test I played in Cape Town and my Tailender bat," wrote Anderson, England's highest Test wicket-taker, over Twitter.
All sporting activities remain under indefinite suspension because of the pandemic. But many sportspersons have come out and done their bit in order to help humanity overcome the unprecedented health crisis.
England cricketers, Anderson included, had earlier volunteered 20 per cent pay cut for the next three months in order to safeguard the sport's immediate future, as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) foresees heavy losses because of the lockdown.
The board has been forced to announce that no cricket will be played in the summer till at least July 1.
Discussions are going over how possibly the lucrative fixtures could be saved.
