Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar had recently proposed a three-match India vs Pakistan ODI series to raise funds in the fight against COVID-19.
While the likes of Kapil Dev, Rajiv Shukla, and Zaheer Abbas felt that the series is not feasible at the moment, Pakistan’s superstar all-rounder Shahid Afridi has defended Akhtar and taunted the current Indian government.
“Relations with India should be better as cricket has always brought Pakistan & India closer. I agree with Shoaib Akhtar, we should have matches but it’ll be a big challenge to organize as we don’t know where they’d be held or if India wants to play,” Afridi said.

India has not played a bilateral series against their archrivals since 2012 and only play against the Green Army in the ICC tournaments.
Thus, the swashbuckling right-hander took a dig at the Modi government as he believes that all the negativity comes from the Indian side and it is not possible to have a bilateral series at the moment.
“We want to play against India, but it’s difficult in this situation because of the Modi Government as there is negativity coming from them. Pakistan has always been positive but India also has to take a positive step towards us,” the 40-year-old said.
It is known that the political tension between India and Pakistan has ruled out the possibility of any cricketing series between these two countries. Thus, it will be interesting to see whether they play each other in the near future after conditions get better.
