New Zealand on Tuesday (March 3) announced the 15-man squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia and the pace trio of Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, and Matt Henry, who missed the white-ball series against India at home, have been named in the squad.

All three players were part of the Kiwi Test side that coped a 3-0 whitewash down under earlier this year but they sustained injuries during that tour. Subsequently, they underwent rehab, regained full fitness and broke into the national side. While Henry and Ferguson played first-class cricket and two domestic 50-over matches, Boult featured in the just-concluded Test series against India.

Retained in the ODI squad is lanky pacer Kyle Jamieson, who has had a stellar start to his international career, claiming 12 wickets against India in four games. Hamish Bennett and Scott Kuggelieijn, who were part of the ODI squad against India, couldn’t make the cut.

Mitchell Santner, the left-arm spinner, snubbed from the recently held Test series versus India, will spearhead the spin bowling whereas Ish Sodhi has been preferred over Todd Astle as the second spinner.

"Our one-day unit is a pretty settled one with plenty of experience and I think that showed in the recent series against India," Gary Stead, the New Zealand coach, said.

"Playing Australia in Australia is one of the great challenges in world cricket and you know you will be severely tested in all aspects of the game. It's an honour to compete for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy and I know it means a lot to the players to have the trophy in our cabinet," he added.

The first two ODIs will be played in Sydney on March 13 and 15 before moving on to Hobart for the third game on March 20.
