Sri Lanka hosted West Indies in the first game of the three-match ODI series in Colombo on Saturday (February 22).

Sent into bat, the visitors posted 289/7 in 50 overs on the back of opener Shai Hope’s 115 from 140 balls. Roston Chase (41 off 45 balls), Darren Bravo (39 off 52 balls) and Keemo Paul (32* off 17 balls) also made valuable contributions with the bat.

For Sri Lanka, Isuru Udana claimed three wickets but he conceded 82 runs in his 10 overs. Nuwan Pradeep (1/42) and Thisara Perera (1/40) also chipped in with wicket apiece.

In reply, the hosts got over the line with 1-wicket in hand and five balls to spare. Avishka Fernando (50 off 55 balls), Dimuth Karunaratne (52 off 57 balls) scored fifties and added 111 runs for the opening wicket but the middle-order collapsed miserably.

Amid the flurry of wickets, Wanindu Hasaranga held the one end firmly and remained unbeaten on 39-ball 42 to take his team home.

Alzarri Joseph (3/42), Keemo Paul (2/48) and Hayden Walsh (2/38) were the pick of the bowlers for West Indies.
