Hylton Deon Ackerman joins Afghanistan team as batting coach

Former South Africa cricketer turned commentator Hylton Deon Ackerman has been named Afghanistan's batting coach on Tuesday (January 28).

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced Ackerman’s appointment as its national team’s batting coach on Twitter on Tuesday while confirming that his tenure will start with the three-match Twenty20 International series against Ireland in March.

The ACB said in a tweet: “Former South African cricketer and commentator, Hylton Deon Ackerman has been appointed as the new batting coach of Afghanistan National team. Ackerman will commence his duty in March for Afghanistan's T20I series against @Irelandcricket”

He will join former Proteas all-rounder Lance Klusener (head coach), Robin Peterson (bowling coach), and Rivash Gobind (fielding coach) at the Afghanistan coaching staff.

Ackerman, who played four Tests for South Africa and scored 161 runs from eight innings, is currently plying his trade in television broadcasting as a commentator. The 46-year-old has a great First-class record, scoring 14,625 runs with 40 hundred and a high score of 309* at an average of 43.65.
