Abid is a fan of Sachin and wants to meet the Indian legendary batsman.

The first Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi may have failed to produce results because of rain interruptions, but it was still fruitful for the opening batsman of the home side, Abid Ali.

The 32-year-old batsman score a ton (109*) at Rawalpindi on his debut Test match. He has a hundred on his debut ODI as well which he scored against Australia in March, making him the only male player to achieve this feat.

Abid, who made his First-Class debut in 2005, had to wait long for his opportunity on the Pakistan side. He was left out of the World Cup side after a not-so-impressive show against England before the showpiece tournament.

The Pakistan cricketer was disappointed after missing the opportunity to represent Pakistan in the World Cup. There was another reason which upset Abid; missing the chance to meet Sachin Tendulkar.

"I had never grumbled on being ignored," said Abid. "I could not meet Tendulkar because I did not play the World Cup," he added. "I had patience and I had a belief that my time will come and then I will prove what I am capable of."

Abid was unlucky as he couldn't get a chance to feature in the team against Australia for Tests. But he finally earned his Test cap against Sri Lanka at home.

"I knew someday I will get a chance and I was always ready for it. Thankfully I got it and a hundred on debut game is what else you ask for. I waited for long for this very day to come and here I am, " he said.

Abid talked about his comparison with Indian great Sachin. "I am an ordinary player and I can't match those great players," Abid said. "I am Abid Ali and please see me as Abid Ali only.

He said, "I am a down-to-earth person, so I would like to keep on performing and serve Pakistan with distinction. I need to raise my game and with every chance, I have to perform well. I have self-belief, I waited for my time and finally, I got it."
