Young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been under the scanner over the past few months, especially since his poor West Indies tour because of his struggle both as batsman and gloveman, and even he lost his place in India’s playing XI in the Test cricket.

However, the Delhi lad has been given constant chances to shed off his poor form as he was again given node for the limited-overs home series against West Indies starting on December 6.

While all eyes will be on Pant, former India wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer has come out in support of the struggling Rishabh Pant, saying the youngster is an extremely talented wicketkeeper, and he only need to work on his technique to become much better.

Delivering the Dilip Sardesai Memorial Lecture at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai on Thursday, Engineer also suggested that there should have a wicket-keeping coach in the national set-up.

As per reports in Firstcricket, Engineer said: “He (Rishabh Pant) is an extremely talented wicketkeeper, but his technique is flawed. He gets up too soon. These days, they have batsman-wicketkeepers and not wicketkeeper-batsman.”

The 81-year-old continued, “He came to me at Old Trafford during the World Cup 2019 and we had a long chat. I wish I had him with me for two or three net sessions and he would've been a much better wicketkeeper.”

While Pant has been criticised for his work behind the stumps and Engineer feels the young wicketkeeper is under lot of pressure to perform. He signed off by saying, “Now, there are batting coaches, fielding coaches. What can a fielding coach tell Rishabh Pant about wicketkeeping? Everyone is there to criticise the young man. He has so much pressure on him.”
