IND v WI 2019: WATCH - Team India try out new fitness drill 'Chase' or 'Get Chased' ahead of the T20Is

Team India is trying out new fitness drills ahead of their bilateral series against West Indies starting this Friday (December 6) in Hyderabad.

The West Indians will play three T20Is and three ODIs against India in a span of two weeks. The Indian team is trying to increase their fitness levels before the series with some new fitness drills during their practice sessions.

In one such drill, called as the ‘chase drill’ by the BCCI Twitter handle, there are two rows of players either lying down or kneeling down. India's new strength and conditioning (trainer) coach Nick Webb has introduced this drill.

As the coach calls go, the players in the back row try to catch the players running ahead of them. The objective of the back row players is to catch hold of their partner’s towel tucked into their shorts.

BCCI posted a video of the players performing the drill and having fun along with it.

"Players either chase someone or be chased which increases sprinting intent," a senior IPL team trainer, who has trained many Internationals in the past, explained it to PTI on condition of anonymity.

"If I can understand after watching the video posted on the BCCI website, the purpose of the drill is to enhance running speed development and enhancing the training environment through competition," the trainer added.

"Changing different starting positions adds more chaos and challenges movement patterns," the trainer explained.
