Wishing Sourav Ganguly all the luck, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, on Thursday, November 21, hopes former captain will have five times more successful tenure as BCCI President than what he tasted during his interim stint as the board chief five years ago.

Ganguly is the first India captain who is leading the world’s richest cricket body – BCCI in five years after Gavaskar who was appointed interim president of the board in 2014.

Former Indian skipper was given charge by the Supreme Court for two and half months to run the IPL 2014 smoothly in the aftermath of IPL spot-fixing scandal, though; he never held the position as a full-time administrator.

Gavaskar said while receiving honorary life membership at the Measurer's Club: “I wish him all the best. Before him there was also a former Indian captain with the same initials who was the BCCI President for two and half months which was considered successful.”

He continued, “Before him there was also another former Indian captain with the same initials -- SG -- for two and half months and I think that period was considered successful. Now he has got 10 months period unless there is a change. I hope he becomes five times more successful because two (his tenure) multiplied by five is 10. Hope this SG is five times successful than that SG.”

Meanwhile, Gavaskar is in the Kolkata for commentating on the historic Day-Nigh Test between India and Bangladesh at the iconic Eden Gardens on Friday (November 22).

He signed off by saying, “It’s an exciting time for India and for the world cricket as well, there hasn’t been many pink ball Tests as well. This is something new for Indian cricket. In order to prepare even I have come wearing pink today … But this is just for commentary. I never played with the pink ball.”
