AUS v PAK 2019: Rain and lengthy interval leave Finch disappointed after Sydney T20I washout

AUS v PAK 2019: Rain and lengthy interval leave Finch disappointed after Sydney T20I washout

The first game of the three-match series was abandoned due to rain.

Australia captain Aaron Finch was frustrated after bad weather played spoilsport in the first T20I of the ongoing series against Pakistan in Sydney on Sunday (November 3).

Chasing 119 to win in an already rain-curtailed 15-overs per side match, the Aussies were 41/0 in just 3.1 overs when the umpires decided to call off the proceedings; only 11 more deliveries short of the game being officially constituted. The DLS target at the end of five overs without a wicket lost was 33.

However, what really fell under Finch's scanner is the umpires' call to go ahead with a regular 20 minutes break between the two innings despite 80 minutes already lost at the start of the encounter.

"If you're cutting overs off the game and you still have a 20-minute break it doesn't make much sense to me," the home captain told Fox Sports

The ICC playing conditions gave match referee, in this case former India pacer Javagal Srinath, the option of limiting the innings interval to as little as 10 minutes. But that wasn't taken with further rain forecast.

"We asked the question on what the changeover would be, and it remains the same," Australia's vice-captain Alex Carey said. "It's disappointing to be so close to what might have been."

"But it's part of the game, we're all aware of that. It's one of those things we can't change."

"I guess as spectators they would have liked the result. We understand it's good and bad, we can't change it."
