South Africa captain Faf du Plessis believes there shall be no compromise with regards to national team's coaching and selection appointments, and any interim arrangement in these important departments has a "massive red flag" from his side. 

In wake of the team's disastrous World Cup campaign in UK, Cricket South Africa had fired coach Ottis Gibson, his back-up staff as well as the selectors and brought in a new structure headed by the director of cricket and a team director.

Former one-day international player Corrie van Zyl and 37-year-old Enoch Nkwe were then appointed in an interim capacity. 

Nkwe was in charge of the Proteas side that just suffered a 3-0 Test series whitewash in India.

Du Plessis, on his part, said he is committed to lead the country despite what can be described as "the toughest period in my cricket journey".  But added that the matter of appointments on important posts "needs to be resolved as soon as possible".

"The most important thing right now is clarity," he was quoted as saying by AFP. "Someone needs to make decisions, the director of cricket first and then filter down so everyone else can make decisions."

Further, Du Plessis bats for the involvement of some of the country's former players with the national team. "It's obvious that we need to make more use of ex-players but it also comes with challenges," he said.

"I suppose it always comes down to finance. I know for a fact that we have tried to get them involved but the financial thing is a hurdle. We need experience in the team right now and that comes from ex-players."

Du Plessis' men did start the Test series on a good note but eventually suffered successive heavy defeats in Visakhapatnam, Pune and Ranchi. 

"It was obvious from the way we played the last Test match. We started really well but by being put under pressure for a long period of time through the series, slowly but surely we started playing worse," he said. 

The 35-year-old also said losing all the three tosses was a massive disadvantage as well and he wouldn't mind if the practice of toss is done away with and the away team gets to decide what it wants. 

"Every Test match they (India) bat first, they score 500, they declare when it's dark, they get three wickets when it’s dark and when day three starts you are under pressure. It was like copy and paste in every Test match."

"Then away teams will have a better chance (if the toss is abolished). In South Africa I don’t mind that, we bat on green tops anyway," Du Plessis concluded.
