Team India won the inaugural World T20 in 2007 and has not won any other edition so far. Captain Virat Kohli states ICC World T20 2020 is the ‘big focus’ and wants to become the second Indian captain to win the prestigious trophy.
Virat Kohli as captain has been fantastic in bilateral series and also when it comes to performing with the bat. However, the only missing piece in his captaincy cabinet is an ICC trophy. The newly-elected BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has also said that Kohli should now focus on winning ICC tournaments.
Kohli told ICC, “The T20 World Cup in 2020 is a big focus for us, and it's important that we use the next 12 months to place ourselves in the best possible position to compete for another major ICC trophy.”

He also revealed that the Indian players are highly motivated to win the trophy in Australia and are ready to make the best use of the next 12 months in hand.
“Our players will be really motivated to take their opportunities when they get selected for T20I matches to put themselves forward for the T20 World Cup, as we want to have a settled team combination by the time we get to Australia," he said.
While he hoped that the team will be victorious under his captaincy, he also hoped that the Indian Women’s Cricket team also wins the tournament which is supposed to end before the men’s tournament.
“India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 when the format was new and the future a bit unknown. Since then, T20 cricket has truly come of age and it would be an honor to be the second Indian captain to lift the T20 World Cup trophy, and hopefully the third if the Indian women can win it earlier in 2020. I hope to see more of that when we come back to Australia next year,” the 30-year-old said.
Team India will be in action in the third and final Test against South Africa from Saturday (19 October), before playing Bangladesh at home in a T20I and Test series.
