Jonny Bairstow has been left out of England’s Test squad for the upcoming New Zealand tour. The selectors named a 15-man squad on Monday (September 23) for the two-match Test series, starting November 21.
Warwickshire opener Dominic Sibley has been rewarded for his remarkable summer with a maiden call-up to the Test squad. The 24-year-old had amassed 1324 runs in this County Championship, including an unbeaten double century.
Kent's Zak Crawley has also been included after a promising summer at the top of the order. Lancashire duo Saqib Mahmood and Matt Parkinson have received call-ups to the Test squad as well.
Veteran pacer James Anderson remains unavailable for selection as he recovers from the calf injury that ruled him out of the recent Ashes series.
A 15-man squad for the five-match T20I series against the Black Caps was also announced, with Bairstow set to feature in the shortest format.
First call-ups were handed to Tom Banton and Saqib Mahmood, along with Worcestershire seamer Pat Brown and Lancashire spinner Matthew Parkinson.
Tom Banton and Saqib Mahmood earned their first England call-ups after stellar white-ball summers. Banton hit 549 runs for Somerset in the Vitality Blast whereas Mahmood took 8 wickets in the same competition besides his 28 scalps in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
Worcestershire seamer Pat Brown and Lancashire spinner Matthew Parkinson also received their first white-ball call-ups.
