Former Pakistan greats Zaheer Abbas and Shahid Afridi have opined that Sarfaraz Ahmed should not continue to lead the Men in Green in Test cricket, saying the wicket-keeper has found it difficult to manage the pressure of captaining across the formats of the game.

Since the retirement of Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz has been leading Pakistan in all three formats, although, he got some success as captain in limited-overs cricket, but faced plenty of criticism after Pakistan has slipped to 7th in the ICC rankings in the five-day format.

Despite their red-ball struggle over the past two years, Sarfaraz was recently retained as captain across the formats but the two legends felt the skipper should be only allowed to focus on the white-ball game.

As per reports in PTI, Afridi said: “I think it would be better for him if Sarfaraz didn't become the Test captain because I think captaining in three formats is a big burden for him. He is naturally inclined to be a successful captain in the limited over cricket formats.”

While Abbas opined: “I don't think he can manage the pressure of captaining in three formats. He would be better off only managing the ODI and T20 formats. Test cricket is the most difficult format in cricket and it is not easy captaining in this format. Sarfaraz should be allowed to focus on 50-overs and T20 cricket.”

The legendary cricketer also suggested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and national selectors look at other options for the Test captaincy while saying Misbah-ul-Haq might feeling a lot of pressure both as the head coach and chief selector.

Abbas signed off by saying, “I think there will be a lot of pressure on Misbah handling both things plus he doesn't have coaching experience at the top level.”
