After humiliating one-off Test loss to Afghanistan at home, Bangladesh are looking for a fresh start in the upcoming T20 International Tri-Nation Series involving Zimbabwe starting from Friday (September 13).
Captain Shakib-Al-Hasan said the hosts need to put behind their Test defeat disappointment and charge up themselves when they take on Zimbabwe in the Tri-Nation series opener on Friday at Dhaka.
Their 224-run loss against Afghanistan has put Bangladesh on high alert and Shakib said his team is determined to win the Tri-Nation tournament to silence the critics.
Shakib told reporters before Friday’s T20I, “We need to win the first T20 match. If we can do that then we will have the chance to bring everything under control.”
Meanwhile, newly-appointed head coach Russell Craig Domingo said the Tigers start their preparation for the T20 World Cup next year in Australia with the home Tri-series, saying he can’t guarantee a win against Zimbabwe given the nature of the format, but they will try their best to win the series at home.
He told media in Mirpur, “We will go every single game to win in the series...particularly in Twenty20 cricket, in any day any team can beat any side. I can’t guarantee a win tomorrow…but what I can say we will give our best performance that’s for sure.”
Domingo signed off by saying, “You need to play some fast bowlers. That's really important. And with the World Cup in Australia, there is no doubt you need them.”
