Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday (September 4) announced former skipper Misbah-ul-Haq as national team's next head coach cum chief selector for a three-year-long term.
Ex-pacer Waqar Younis has also been named the side's bowling coach for the same duration.
Misbah's appointment in a rare of its kind duel role was made in line with PCB’s commitment to ensure transparency, accountability and job clarity at all levels. He'll also have head coaches of the six first-class Cricket Association sides as his fellow selectors.
Misbah eclipsed Dean Jones, Mohsin Khan and Courtney Walsh in the race for his job after being unanimously chosen by five-member panel that comprising Intikhab Alam, Bazid Khan, Asad Ali Khan, Wasim Khan and Zakir Khan.
The appointment was further approved by the PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani.
Misbah and Waqar's first assignment with the national side will be the home limited-overs series against Sri Lanka in October.
The duo has previously worked together internationally, of course, with Misbah as Pakistan captain and Waqar as his team's head coach from May 2014 to April 2016.
