Rohit Sharma likes a meme about KL Rahul’s failures in Test cricket recently

KL Rahul has not made a fifty ever since scoring 149 against England in 2018.

KL Rahul | GettyRohit Sharma has been an enigma when it comes to Test cricket. The right-hander made a remarkable debut in whites in 2013, scoring 177 against West Indies and followed it up with another hundred in his second Test during Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell series.

However, his inconsistent form has meant that he hasn't been able to cement his place in Tests.  And while he has become an all-time great limited-overs opener, the same cannot be said about his Test career, which surprisingly has good numbers with 1585 runs in 27 matches at an average of 39.62 and three centuries and 10 fifties to his name.

However, he has been overlooked for the ongoing Test series against West Indies and despite being in the squad, didn’t get to play a single match, while KL Rahul struggled to get runs as an opener. Rahul has not made a fifty since his 149 against England in the fifth Test but has been persevered with while the likes of M Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan lost their places in the Indian playing XI.

Right now, the Indian fans were clamoring for giving Rohit Sharma a chance as an opener in the Test matches as well, given his record in ODIs and T20Is at the same position and his natural talent speaks for itself. He has kind of struggled to make a place as a no.6 batsman and despite he played in Australia series, he left it midway to be with his wife, who gave birth to their daughter in December 2018.

This meant Hanuma Vihari was given a chance at no.6 and he has grabbed it with both hands, recently scoring 93 in the Antigua Test, his off-spin bowling is an added advantage, while Rohit Sharma has stopped bowling after his shoulder surgery.

However, when a cricket portal posted a meme about KL Rahul on Instagram, which read “Averaging just 35 in Test cricket, but for many Indian he is Bradman… Rohit Sharma averages 40 in Test cricket and has an average of over 70 in last two years in Tests” It was a clear dig at the struggling opener from Karnataka.
