The 36-year-old is currently leading the English pace attack in the Test cricket and any serious fitness concern would be a real cause of concern for the England selectors ahead of a five-match Test series against arch-rivals Australia starting from 1 August in Birmingham.

Meanwhile, England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed in a statement: “Jimmy Anderson has sustained tightness to his right calf. He will not bowl again in the game and will continue to be assessed.”

Noteworthy, Anderson has 575 wickets from 148 matches in the traditional format of the game to place him fourth in the all-time list of Test wicket-takers.
