Virat Kohli bags top honours in CEAT International Cricket Awards

Bumrah was adjudged International Bowler of the Year, while Rohit Sharma bagged the international ODI cricketer of the Year award.

India skipper Virat Kohli on Monday (May 13) added another feather to his cap as he bagged the International Cricketer and Batsman of the Year award during the CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) International awards 2019.

Kohli, who will be leading India in the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales, had an outstanding last season with the bat. In January 2019, the Indian captain became the first player to clinch the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year, the ICC Men’s Test Player of the Year and the ICC ODI Player of the Year awards in the same year. Moreover, he was named the leader of ICC’s Test and ODI team of the year.

Apart from Kohli, India speedster Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged International Bowler of the Year by CEAT. Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan won the award for outstanding T20 bowling while Australia opener Aaron Finch earned the honour for his outstanding batting in the shortest format.

India’s seasoned Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara won the International Test Cricketer of the Year. On the other hand, IPL-winning captain Rohit Sharma also bagged the international ODI cricketer of the year award.

Smriti Mandhana was given the International women cricketer of the year award at the same ceremony. Young prodigy Yashasvi Jaiswal, who performed exceptionally over the year was awarded Junior Cricketer of the Year whereas chinaman Kuldeep Yadav took home outstanding performance of the year award.

1983 World Cup-winner Mohinder Amarnath was bestowed with the lifetime achievement award at the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards. Amarnath vowed to donate a part of the prize money to the Army Welfare Fund.

Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar, former Australian batsman Dean Jones, former New Zealand pacer Danny Morrison among others were present on the occasion.
