South African seamer Duanne Olivier, on Wednesday, 20 March, has expressed his desire to play for England in the future after terminating his association with Cricket South Africa (CSA) to join Yorkshire.

Olivier appeared to have cemented his place in the South African Test side with 31 wickets in just his five appearances in the whites, also played two one-day internationals for the national side, but surprised many by signing a Kolpak deal with Yorkshire in February 2019.

After rejecting a two-year central contract with South Africa, the 26-year-old has admitted that his international career has ended with the Proteas side, but if he succeeds in doing well with the Yorkshire, he would like to play for England, as he is looking to stay long enough to secure British citizenship to qualify for English selection in the future.

Olivier told the Daily Mail on Wednesday, “I accept that my Test career is over for South Africa but if I do well, hopefully in the future, I can play for England. You always need to put your mind to certain goals. Maybe people will think it's unrealistic but for me, if I really do well, you never know.”

He continued, “I can't tell you what will happen in the future. All I can do, as of now, is control what I am doing this season and give 100 percent every game. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and if you just concentrate on doing well that will take care of itself.”

Olivier signed off by saying, “I don't think too far ahead. Yes, it will be a goal to play for England one day and it would be amazing but for now, my pure focus is on Yorkshire and just doing well for them.”
