Rohit Sharma ready to root for Spain in upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018

Rohit is a die-hard fan of Spain football team. He cheered for them in FIFA World Cup 2014 as well.

Rohit Sharma | ISL Rohit Sharma, the Indian opener, is a huge fan of football. He follows the game passionately and his favorite national team is Spain.

With the FIFA World Cup 2018 coming near, the excitement among the fans is rising. Football, the most followed sport in the world, is very popular among the Indian cricketers as well.

The event is scheduled to take place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018, and Indian cricket team will play their next limited overs game on June 29 against Ireland.

The vice-captain of Indian limited overs team, Rohit will make use of the free time by holidaying abroad and cheering for his favorite team Spain in the FIFA World Cup.

"I will watch some action for sure. No hesitation, my favorite team is Spain," he told India Today.

Rohit had once named his favorite football players. "Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham are my favorites and are at the top of my list but Fernando Torres is a close third, I enjoy watching him play. Unfortunately, I don’t own any of their personal jerseys but team jerseys, of course," he said.

When asked about cricket, Rohit shared where he loves to bat. "I prefer to bat anywhere that the team wants me to. I am an opener for Team India and for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, I bat at various positions. Every team is different and has different dynamics," he said.

India is set to face England later this year and the limited-overs specialist wants to make the most of it. The series will help Indian team to adjust according to the condition as per Rohit. "The England tour will be important to get used to the conditions and get the right players (involved) moving forward (to the World Cup). I am sure the captain and coach will have an eye on the right combination," he said.

"India will look to finalize their combination for the World Cup in these ODIs they play in the lead-up to the mega event. The ODIs in England will give India's batsmen the chance to play in conditions they need to acclimatize to for the World Cup.

"We will get a chance to get used to the conditions. Having said that most of the guys have played there before. For those going there for the first time, especially for our wrist-spinners, it will be an important tour," Rohit concluded.
