It was India’s second World Cup triumph after 28 years. India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and left-handed opening batsman Gautam Gambhir were the hero in the final as they scored 91* and 97 respectively while chasing Sri Lanka’s stiff target of 275. It was also the first World Cup victory for the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, which he accomplished in the sixth attempt.
