“My mother told me to stay away from Pakistan politics and PCB”- Shoaib Akhtar on rumors of joining forces with Mohsin Naqvi

Shoaib Akhtar played for Pakistan from 1996 to 2011.

Shoaib Akhtar | XShoaib Akhtar, a former cricket player for Pakistan, stated that he will follow his mother's advice to avoid Pakistan politics and the Pakistan Cricket Board. With recent disappointing results across formats, it is expected that the board will undergo a massive overhaul.

As per earlier reports, Akhtar, who resides in Islamabad, visited PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi last week for comprehensive discussions on Pakistan cricket and the board’s intentions for its national teams.

According to the sources, after Naqvi contacted Akhtar following the passing of the former pacer's older brother, their relationship had strengthened in recent months.

Addressing claims in the mainstream and social media about him being appointed chief selector or taking up another major post, Shoaib stressed that he wouldn’t be joining the board.

“There is no such thing, and all that is being said is speculative. Look, my mother told me to stay away from Pakistan politics and the PCB, and I am going to stick to that advice," Akhtar said while speaking on the PTV Sports channel.

The former bowler stated that he was in Houston on a private visit and, while wishing Pakistan cricket well, made it clear that he wouldn’t accept any post with the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Akhtar maintained that he had not been offered the position of chief selector, but he did not reveal if he had seen PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

“I would love to serve Pakistan cricket, but I think I can do it in many other ways," Akhtar said.

Shoaib Akhtar has remained highly critical of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s functioning since the state of Pakistan Cricket since he retired from the game. However, he has softened his stance a bit in recent times, which led to speculation that he might join forces with Mohsin Naqvi in the PCB.
