Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan's interior minister and current chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is set to bring in radical changes to the board, if a PTI report is to be believed, in the aftermath of the humiliating 0-3 drubbing Pakistan received at the hands of England in the recent Test series.
Pakistan failed to cross the 200-run mark in the first two Tests and the first innings of the final Test in Birmingham. Pakistan lost the first Test in Leeds by an innings and 103 runs, the second Test at Lord’s by 194 runs, and the final Test, despite some fight, by 8 wickets.
As a result of this humiliation and continued downfall of Pakistan cricket, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi is expected to make tough calls, including the possible sacking of selection committee members.
This includes selector Aaqib Javed, who was the central figure in Pakistan sacking seven players and two coaches before the third Test and bringing in seven new players, including five who had not played a Test.
Aaqib Javed is considered one of the major factors causing instability in Pakistani cricket, as he is seen to be the key person linked to the repeated changes of the coach and captain of the Men in Green team.
Another big name that is set to face the axe is Wahab Riaz, the mentor-cum-coach of the Pakistan women's team. The Pakistan women’s team lost to India after being bowled out for just 55 runs in the recent ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2026 and then lost to Sri Lanka in the semi-final of the tournament.
“Even Mohsin Naqvi has now realized that some radical measures are required to end the losing streak and abrupt happenings in Pakistan cricket. So, these changes are now on the cards,” an internal source said to PTI.
It seems like the push for such major changes in the Pakistan selection committee and other matters is being influenced by white-ball coach Mike Hesson, who has also expressed willingness to take over the coaching role of the Test team as well.
It must be noted that Hesson will take up the job if a definite timeline is set forth for him, along with a clear guarantee that there will be no interference in his decision-making process.
Moreover, it has been reported that Naqvi is expected to hold a meeting of high officials before any final decisions and changes are made.
“Naqvi will soon hold a high-level meeting with his aides and also take the governing board members into confidence before final decisions are made on the changes,” the report added.
Pakistan’s next big challenge will be the Asian Games 2026 in Japan, followed by a complete series against Sri Lanka in October.
