Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has kept the door open for a future IPL stint after securing British citizenship, saying he is yet to decide whether he will enter the cash-rich league.

Speaking on the sidelines of The Hundred, where he is representing Trent Rockets, Amir confirmed that he will register as an overseas player for the 2027 Pakistan Super League (PSL) season but remained coy regarding his IPL participation.

"I will play in the PSL in 2027 as an overseas player. As for the IPL, I don't know yet whether I will participate," Amir said.

Amir obtained British citizenship through his wife, Narjis Khan. As a result, he is actively playing as a domestic player for the Trent Rockets in the 2026 edition of The Hundred, where he joined as an injury replacement for David Payne.

The 34-year-old recently joined Nottinghamshire's Notts Outlaws for the T20 Blast as a local player as well.

In past PSL seasons, Amir played as a local Pakistani cricketer. For the 2027 edition, his new passport means any franchise wanting his services must use one of their allocated foreign-player roster slots. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet to clarify if Rawalpindi can seamlessly retain him or if his status change will force him back into the overseas player auction pool.

The acquisition of British citizenship also makes him eligible to bypass the BCCI's ban on Pakistani players in the Indian Premier League, similar to Azhar Mahmood's past stint.

Mohammad Amir officially concluded his international career with 271 total wickets across formats, having briefly reversed his initial 2020 retirement to play in the June 2024 T20 World Cup before making his final retirement announcement in December 2024.

Amir was part of Pakistan's ICC T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2009. He also delivered a devastating 3-16 spell against India to help the Men in Green secure the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.
