Afghanistan are likely to host India in a three-match T20I series later this year at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Even though it counts as an away series for T20 World Cup champions, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has designated the Indian capital as its neutral home base due to ongoing geopolitical challenges back home.
While the official announcement is awaited, the tentative dates for the three T20I matches in Delhi are September 13, 16, and 19. Afghanistan are also scheduled to tour India for one-off Test and three ODIs from June 6 to June 20, 2026.
According to a TOI report, the ACB approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a return tour.
“BCCI and ACB share a good relationship. BCCI has been helping other boards like Ireland, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe by sending Indian teams to play a series there to boost the finances of those board. An understanding has been reached between BCCI and ACB in this regard. An official announcement will be made after a few modalities are completed,” the publication quoted a BCCI source as saying.
“The BCCI mediated an understanding between ACB the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) for availability to be the home base for Afghanistan for the series. The DDCA is also scheduling its Delhi Premier League T20 accordingly,” the source added.
Due to the logistical and safety restrictions of playing international fixtures in Afghanistan, the BCCI has historically provided neutral home grounds to the ACB in locations like Greater Noida, Dehradun, and Lucknow
“The itinerary has been shared with India’s national selection committee since they have to pick a 15-member T20 team for the Asian Games in late Sept. The cricket event at Asian Games is due to start on Sept 23. The selectors will pick the team accordingly,” the BCCI source said.
