Yograj Singh, father of legendary Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, is once again in the news for his honest words and thoughts.

This time, the former Indian cricketer has found himself in trouble over his remark about cricketers’ wives influencing their retirement from the game and explaining the potential reasons for the same.

Yograj, 68, made a sexist comment, claiming that spouses and children are the primary causes of cricket players ending their professional careers. Additionally, he said that a player's age has no influence on their skill and that they can continue playing for as long as they want, as long as their hunger and desire persist.

“I have seen people in India going, 'We are getting old after turning 40.' Women go out of shape when they turn 30, saying their kids have grown up. What can we do? I started this regimen in my gym, where I am a director, and I consciously decided to bring the senior citizens into shape. How can one relate playing the game to the age?” Yograj told InsideSport.

To emphasize his point, Yograj Singh further stated that wives shouldn’t come between a player and his cricket career.

“You know what happens: your ladies of the house, your wives, they start coaching you, telling you it’s time to retire, time to look after the family, the kids. So, I believe women should not come in between the legendary prospect of an athlete, fakir, or player; yeh dono ka koi dharam nahi hai, warg nahi hai (noble men and players don't have any religion); they belong to God. As long as they live, they can do a lot of things," he added.

Speaking on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Yograj Singh stated that their age shouldn’t be a matter, and if they continue scoring runs, they should be playing for India in ODIs.

“Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are young cricketers, and they want to quit. Laanat hai zindagi bhar. Make the world realize that you are the best, that you are indispensable. Even if you are fifty years old and still scoring a double hundred, no one will drop you. The age factor in this country is really funny,” said Yograj.

Furthermore, he stated that MS Dhoni, who is 44 years old, should continue to play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL for the next 10 years.

"He (Dhoni) is still playing and should keep on doing so for the next 10 years. Because he has proved his fitness with the right discipline and dedication. I still see his forearm, amazing man. Who the hell are people to tell him to retire? No. As far as cricket is concerned, hats off to him,” Yograj concluded.
