Veteran pacer Mohammad Shami’s international career faces uncertainty after he recently slammed the selectors over a lack of communication following his snub from the Indian white-ball squads for the ongoing Australia tour.
BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the allegations, citing that Shami was not considered for selection due to fitness concerns.
Shami, who is currently plying his trade in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal, last played for India during the Champions Trophy 2025 triumph in March.
Now, a report published in Sportskeeda claims that former India pacer RP Singh, who was added to the Agarkar-led selection panel last month, held lengthy discussions with Shami following Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy match between Bengal and Gujarat on Sunday.
"After the media exchanges between Ajit Agarkar and Mohammad Shami last week, newly-appointed selector RP Singh is at Eden Gardens for the Bengal vs Gujarat clash. The World T20 winner spoke to Shami at length after the day's play today," the report said.
Shami recently returned with figures of 3/37 and 4/38 across the two innings to power Bengal to an eight-wicket victory over Uttarakhand in the first round of Ranji Trophy.
The right-arm quick made a statement with a seven-wicket haul, demonstrating his fitness at the age of 35. It remains to be seen if Shami gets the nod for the upcoming home Test series against South Africa, starting November 14 in Kolkata.
