Mohsin Naqvi, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, has brought a new twist to the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 trophy saga. It has been reported that Naqvi has taken the trophy into his personal possession and moved it out of the ACC office to an undisclosed location.
The disagreement began when India declined to receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan's interior minister and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, following a five-wicket victory over Pakistan in Dubai on September 28, citing cross-border tensions between the two countries.
The post-match presentation was delayed by 90 minutes following India's triumph, with an official taking the trophy from the raised dais without explanation.
A BCCI official's recent visit to the ACC headquarters disclosed the trophy's new position. When asked about its whereabouts, the staff said it was in Mohsin Naqvi's custody in Abu Dhabi.
"A BCCI official visited ACC headquarters a few days back. When he inquired about the trophy in the ACC office, the staff told him that it has been removed from here and is in the custody of Mohsin Naqvi in some place in Abu Dhabi," an ANI source revealed.
In early October, Naqvi set the terms for the trophy's return, claiming that if India truly wanted it, they should take it from him at the ACC headquarters. He later proposed holding a ceremony to hand over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to India.
Following the BCCI's formal letter seeking the trophy handover, Naqvi maintained his stand, insisting on an Indian player attending a ceremony to accept the trophy from him.
The ACC meeting did not reach a formal agreement on handing over the trophy to India, leaving the subject unsolved.
