Mohsin Naqvi, chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and president of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has proposed hosting a ceremony in Dubai to deliver the Asia Cup trophy to India's men's cricket team.
The Indian team refused to receive the trophy from Naqvi after winning the final against Pakistan on September 28. After nearly an hour of confrontation, Naqvi directed that the trophy be taken from the stadium. Suryakumar, the Indian captain, subsequently mimicked winning the award with his colleagues.
The Indian players refused to collect the medal from Naqvi due to his position as Pakistan's Interior Minister and suspected support for terrorism in India. According to Indian media sources, the BCCI may address this matter at upcoming meetings of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the ACC.
Meanwhile, ahead of the ICC meeting in Dubai from November 4-7, Naqvi stated that the ACC has written to the BCCI that a ceremony can be held in Dubai on November 10. The letter also stated that the Indian captain and players should be present in Dubai to receive the trophy from Naqvi.
"There was a series of letters exchanged with the BCCI, and the ACC has conveyed to them that we are ready to host Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav and his players with BCCI official Rajeev Shukla to take the trophy in a ceremony on November 10 in Dubai," Naqvi told the media in Karachi as per Times of India.
"The ACC has written to the BCCI that a ceremony can be held in Dubai on November 10. Bring your captain and players and receive the trophy from me," Naqvi said.
India defeated Pakistan thrice in the Asia Cup 2025 tournament, including the final on September 28 in Dubai. This was India’s ninth Asia Cup win overall and the second time winning the event in the T20 format.
