Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), has declined to send the Asia Cup trophy to India.
He has told the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that a ceremony should be held in November, and they can bring one of the Indian players and get the trophy from him.
This came when Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Asian Cricket Council, received an official email from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) instructing him to return the Asia Cup trophy to India.
In an exclusive interview with India Today, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that they are expecting a word from Naqvi and will send an official letter to the ICC if he does not respond. According to the BCCI secretary, the procedure is proceeding step by step, and the subject will continue to be pursued.
At the post-match ceremony following the final, the Indian team declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi; hence, the Asia Cup is now at the ACC office in Dubai.
"We have decided not to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the senior leaders of Pakistan. That was a conscious decision. This does not give him the right to take the trophy and the medals with him. It is extremely unfortunate and unsportsmanlike. We hope the trophy and medals will be returned to India as soon as possible," Saikia had said earlier.
Naqvi maintained his stance and refused to return the trophy to the Indian team, although expressing regret to the ACC member boards. He insisted that India's captain would need to go to the ACC offices in Dubai in person to pick up the silverware if they desired it.
The BCCI quickly denied this condition, claiming that there was no reason for the Indian captain to travel to Dubai to accept a trophy that should have been delivered immediately following the final.
However, now, Pakistani reporter Faizan Lakhani claims that when the BCCI contacted Naqvi about the Asia Cup, he replied by proposing a ceremony for the first week of November and requesting that India send a player to accept the trophy.
“Asia Cup Trophy row: BCCI once again reached out to the ACC chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, asking for the trophy. The ACC chief responded, suggesting a ceremony in the first week of November: "Bring one of your players and receive the trophy," Lakhani posted on X.
