South African great batter Hashim Amla recently unveiled his all-time Test XI and, in a surprising move, snubbed Indian great Virat Kohli from his lineup. However, he included the all-time highest run-getter in Tests, Sachin Tendulkar, in his lineup.
Amla also chose India’s ex-captain and coach Rahul Dravid in his all-time XI, which sees his former Proteas teammate Graeme Smith and Aussie legend Matthew Hayden as openers. Smith finished his Test career with 9265 runs, while Hayden scored 8265 runs in his 103-match Test career. 9030 runs of Smith’s career came while opening.
Rahul Dravid, who made 10524 runs in 134 matches while batting at No. 3, at a stunning average of 52.88, is followed by Australia’s Ricky Ponting at No. 4, and legendary all-rounder Jacques Kallis was slotted in at No. 5. Kallis made 13289 runs with 45 centuries and took 292 wickets in 166 Tests.
Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 15921 runs in 200 tests with 51 centuries to his name, comes next, followed by AB de Villiers, who is chosen as a wicket-keeper in this XI.
For his bowling lineup, Amla chose two of the greatest spinners to ever play the game in Muthiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne, who have 800 and 708 Test wickets, respectively. For the pacer bowling options, Amla chose his teammate Dale Steyn, who finished his Test career with 439 wickets in 93 matches, and Australian legend Glenn McGrath, who picked 563 wickets in 124 Tests.
