Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s stocks are on the rise this year. After becoming a household name with his breathtaking exploits in the IPL 2025, the teenage sensation has secured an unprecedented promotion in Bihar cricket for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season.

The selectors on Monday (October 13) announced the Bihar squad for the first two rounds of games, with Sooryavanshi being elevated to the vice-captaincy role. Sakibul Gani retains his position as captain.

Bihar, placed in Plate Group, will open their campaign against Arunachal Pradesh in Patna on October 15, before locking horns with Manipur in Nadiad from October 25.

Sooryavanshi will enter the first-class tournament on the back of an impressive outing in Australia with the Under-19 team, where he scored a 78-ball century in the first Youth Test in Brisbane.

The southpaw finished the series as the leading run-scorer, amassing 133 runs in three innings as India scripted a 2-0 whitewash. Before the red-ball campaign, India’s U-19 team also engaged in a white-ball series, where Vaibhav scored 124 runs from three one-dayers, which included a 68-ball 70 in the second game.

Prior to the Australia tour, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a mark in the Youth ODI series against England. He produced knocks of 48, 45 and 86 in the first, second and third Youth ODI, respectively. However, his best bit of display came in the fourth game in Worcester, where he slammed 143 off 78 deliveries which included a stunning 52-ball century — the fastest ever in Youth ODIs.

Earlier this year, Sooryavanshi took the cricketing world by storm with his dazzling exploits in the Indian Premier League.

Playing for Rajasthan Royals, the swashbuckling left-hander scored 252 runs in seven matches with a strike rate of 206.55. The highlight of his maiden IPL season was the mind-blowing 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Sooryavanshi, at just 14 years and 32 days, became the youngest-ever batter to score a ton in the cash-rich league. His 101-run knock off 38 balls, studded with seven boundaries and 11 sixes, paved the way for RR’s eight-wicket victory in the chase of 210 with 25 deliveries to spare.

During the course of his whirlwind innings, Sooryavanshi broke Yusuf Pathan's 15-year-old record for the fastest IPL hundred by an Indian. His ton was the second fastest in the tournament history after Chris Gayle's century in 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013.
