RCB finished the IPL 2018 with 6 wins and 8 losses in 14 matches.

Royal Challengers Bangalore dissapointed their fans again | IANS

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL 2018 came to a disappointing end as they lost to Rajasthan Royals in a must-win game for them at Jaipur. RCB won 6 matches and lost 8 out of 14 to end up with 12 points.

Their season started off with losses and despite a brief resurgence in the middle, where they became contenders for a playoffs finish, RCB were left to rue their losses at the starting of the tournament, which pegged them back.

One of the major reasons for their failure was the total failure of their middle order batting, who after the departure of AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli, failed to build on the good work done by them. As before, their bowling was not at par with the other teams, but fortunately, came good when they were needed the most.

Though RCB has a huge fan following across India, like the past 10 seasons, they met with disappointment for the 11th time in a row. It was a highly sad time for their supporters and the team management should look for some sweeping changes so that they can perform better next IPL.

Team COC looks at the performance of the RCB players and presents the player ratings for IPL 2018

VIRAT KOHLI – 7/10

VIRAT KOHLI | IANS

RCB captain Virat Kohli had a brilliant IPL 2018 with the bat, scoring 530 runs with the best score of 92*. He averaged 48.18 with a strike rate of 139.10, with 4 fifties. He played some very good innings in the tournament, but his position in the batting order remained a topic of debate. With a nonperforming middle order, he hesitated from opening in initial matches, something that hampered the start RCB required.

AB DE VILLIERS – 9/10

AB de Villiers | IANS

AB de Villiers missed a couple of games due to viral fever, but still managed to score 480 runs with a strike rate of 174.54. He hit 30 sixes and 39 fours and his best score was that of 90*.  De Villiers and Kohli carried the RCB batting on their shoulders; as other batsmen failed to come forth for the team.

PARTHIV PATEL – 5/10

Parthiv Patel | IANS

Parthiv Patel replaced Quinton de Kock in his absence from the team and managed to keep his place in the team, as RCB team management found a better balance. He scored 153 runs with best of 53 and gave stability at the top to the team.

COLIN DE GRANDHOMME – 5/10

COLIN DE GRANDHOMME | IANS

Kiwi Colin de Grandhomme was expected to perform a big role in the RCB team. He did well to score 131 runs and take 2 wickets, but couldn’t fulfill the role to expectations of the team management. He did play the role of big hitter with some success for his team.

TIM SOUTHEE – 3/10

TIM SOUTHEE I IANS

Tim Southee was bought by RCB in the auction to strengthen the bowling lineup that left them at the bottom of the points table in IPL 2017. Southee picked 5 wickets in 8 games with a best of 3/30. However, the impact that was expected from an experienced bowler like him didn’t come.

MANDEEP SINGH – 5/10

MANDEEP SINGH | IANS

Mandeep Singh was the designated finisher for the RCB team and he made 252 runs in 13 innings with a best of 47* with a strike rate of 135.48. Though Mandeep Singh looks like a busy player, who tends to give it all to the team, the role doesn’t suit him, due to lack of him hitting those big hits towards the end of the innings. He is better at no.4 where he gets to come in and rotate strike and hit occasional boundaries rather than going berserk right after coming in.

QUINTON DE KOCK – 4/10

QUINTON DE KOCK | IANS

Quinton de Kock was bought with much fanfare by RCB and employed as the opener. He scored 201 runs at the top with a strike rate of 124.07 and a top score of 53. With just one fifty at the top, he was expected to do more for the team, and when he went back to South Africa for a personal engagement, lost his place to Parthiv Patel for the last 6 matches.

WASHINGTON SUNDAR – 4/10

WASHINGTON SUNDAR | IANS

Washington Sundar scored 65 runs and took 4 wickets in 7 matches he played in this IPL 2018.  Sundar was often used in the power play overs and did comparatively well with an economy of 9.60. He also scored his runs down the order with a strike rate of 171.05.

BRENDON McCULLUM – 3/10

BRENDON McCULLUM | IANS

Brendon McCullum may be the second best T20 player in the world after Chris Gayle in terms of impact, runs and centuries; but having retired from international cricket two years ago and only playing T20 league cricket all around the world, his reflexes are becoming slow, and his way of kamikaze batting has started to flop badly. With just 127 runs in 6 matches, the highest score of 43 and strike rate of 144.31; McCullum failed to have the domination he was supposed to have at the top.

MOEEN ALI – 4/10

MOEEN ALI | IANS

Moeen Ali waited almost the whole of the tournament for a chance to play. He scored 77 runs in 4 innings with a strike rate of 167.39 with a best of 65. He also picked 3 wickets, but for the matches he played and performed in them, Ali deserves to have more chances in the league in coming seasons.

MANAN VOHRA – 3/10

MANAN VOHRA | IANS

Manan Vohra got limited chances in the tournament and he scored 55 runs in 4 innings with a best of 45. Lack of consistency cost Manan his place in the team and he spent rest of the tournament in the dugout.

MOHD SIRAJ – 6/10

MOHD SIRAJ | IANS

Mohammed Siraj picked 11 wickets in 11 matches with best of 3/25 at the economy of 8.95. Though expensive at times, Siraj managed to pick up crucial wickets at important times and his speed and yorkers at the death, came in handy for RCB to make a comeback into the tournament.

SARFARAZ KHAN – 2/10

SARFARAZ KHAN | IANS

Sarfaraz Khan was retained by RCB in a surprise move before the auction. Much was expected from one of the most exciting young players in the country.  However, Sarfaraz proved everyone wrong with just 51 runs in 6 innings. The scoop shots that had made him a hero a few seasons ago deserted him and with no timing or form with him, Sarfaraz failed to live up to the hype that got him retained in the first place.

CHRIS WOAKES – 5/10

CHRIS WOAKES | IANS

Chris Woakes played only 5 games before going back to England but picked 8 wickets with a best of 3/36. Constant chopping and changing the RCB team management meant that Woakes didn’t have the chance to constantly perform well for his team.

COREY ANDERSON – 1/10

Corey Anderson | Twitter

Corey Anderson was brought into the team as a replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile in the RCB team. He played 3 games without much impact with either the bat or ball. 15 runs and 3 wickets were his contributions to the RCB campaign of IPL 2018.

PAWAN NEGI – 1/10

PAWAN NEGI | IANS

Pawan Negi played 2 games, picking up 1 wicket and scored 3 runs. He didn’t get much match time due to the presence of Chahal and Sundar in the team.

M ASHWIN – 2/10

Murugan Ashwin | IANS

Murugan Ashwin played 2 games and picked 3 wickets for RCB. Ashwin also didn’t get match time due to the presence of better spinners in the team.

UMESH YADAV – 9/10

UMESH YADAV | IANS

Umesh Yadav was the pick of the RCB bowlers this season with 20 wickets to his name and even earned the Purple Cap for a while in the tournament. He almost always picked wickets for RCB in the power plays, giving them a huge advantage at the start. His best of 3/23 came against KXIP when he removed three wickets in an over including that of Aaron Finch and Yuvraj Singh.

YUZVENDRA CHAHAL – 7/10

YUZVENDRA CHAHAL | IANS

Yuzvendra Chahal picked 12 wickets in 14 games and didn’t have the kind of haul of wickets he was supposed to pick. Though he only gave away runs at an economy of 7.26, a strike rate of 25.0 was not expected from him.

KULWANT KHEJROLIYA – 1/10

KULWANT KHEJROLIYA | IANS

Kulwant Khejroliya played 3 games, picking 2 wickets. However, his economy of 9.87 proved to be too much for the team’s liking and his season was limited to just three games.
