Digvesh Rathi provided a lot of drama in the recent LSG v RCB IPL 2025 match at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on May 27, 2025. He ran out RCB’s Jitesh Sharma, who was batting brilliantly, during a key moment of the match.
The incident happened in the 17th over, when Digvesh Rathi ran out Jitesh Sharma at the non-strikers’ end. The decision had gone to the third umpire, who had deemed that the bowler had completed his action when he went for the attempt at the non-striker’s end. However, the rules dictate that the bowler can only go for the run out midway through his action.
Although LSG supported the appeal, Rishabh Pant withdrew it in a noble display of sportsmanship. Late in the game, Jitesh gave Pant an instant hug of appreciation, setting up a dramatic and unforgettable moment.
Here are the videos:
According to the Playing conditions of the IPL, “If the non-striker is out of his/her ground at any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be Run out by the bowler attempting to run him/her out. In these circumstances, the non-striker will be run out if he/she is out of his/her ground when his/her wicket is broken by the bowler throwing the ball at the wicket or by the bowler’s hand holding the ball, whether or not the ball is subsequently delivered".
Earlier, Rishabh Pant’s 118* and 67 by Mitchell Marsh powered LSG to 227/3 in 20 overs. In reply, Virat Kohli’s 54 and Phil Salt’s 30 gave RCB a good start. But a few wickets in the middle derailed their chase.
But then Mayank Agarwal (41*) and Jitesh Sharma (85*) added more than 100 runs and took RCB to the win, scoring 230/4. With this, RCB qualified for the first Qualifier match against PBKS on May 29, while GT and MI will play the Eliminator on May 30, both matches to be played in Chandigarh.
