England's trio of Jofra Archer (RR), Sam Curran, and Jamie Overton (both CSK) are likely to give the rest of the IPL 2025 a miss. The IPL 2025, which was paused on May 9, will resume on May 17 with the final scheduled on June 3, as per the revised itinerary shared by the BCCI.
As per a Cricbuzz report, a high-ranking official with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), has stated that some England players are coming back to finish the league matches, while others have decided not to. Their individual teams have also verified this development.
On Wednesday night, Jos Buttler, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, and Jacob Bethell, among others, will arrive in the nation to finish their IPL responsibilities.
Will Jacks, MI all-rounder, is expected to begin practicing at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday (April 15), and Buttler will join the GT franchise as he arrives in Ahmedabad on Wednesday evening.
RCB’s Liam Livingstone is reportedly traveling to Bengaluru. Also, Bethell is reportedly en route to India, but little is known about Phil Salt, the other English RCB player.
CSK have confirmed to CSK that Sam Curran and Jamie Overton are not returning to India and franchise, who have two games to play, won’t be seeking any replacements.
Rajasthan Royals have revealed that Archer will not return because he is injured and not for any other reason. "It is not a case of not being willing because we are out of reckoning for playoffs. He is nurturing an injury and we are prioritizing his fitness," an RR official said.
The Kolkata Knight Riders' Moeen Ali is reportedly unsure if he will return or not. Munir Ali, his father, informed Cricbuzz that he would be able to provide further details within the next day.
The ECB named Archer, Bethell, Buttler, Jacks, and Overton earlier on Tuesday, May 13. The Harry Brook-led ODI team will play three ODIs against the West Indies on May 29, June 1, and 3.
It implies that all of these players will be unable to participate in the IPL playoffs and will need to return to England following the league stage, which ends on May 27.
