Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) has captured the imagination of everyone in this IPL 2025. From hitting a six off the first ball he faced from Shardul Thakur against LSG, to hitting the second-fastest IPL ton ever, Suryavanshi has become the darling of cricket fans.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 101 runs off 37 balls against the Gujarat Titans in a stunning effort that included 7 fours and 11 big sixes. He thus becomes the youngest player in history to score a century in both T20 cricket and the IPL.
Suryavanshi scored a century in 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans. This was Indian cricket's fastest century in IPL history. This was also the second-fastest ton in IPL history, trailing only Chris Gayle's 30-ball hundred against Pune Warriors India in 2013.
While Suryavanshi garnered praise from around the world from some of the game's luminaries, some people on the internet questioned his age. In fact, Olympic bronze medal-winning boxer Vijender Singh has made an indirect dig at the youngster.
In a satirical tweet on his X account, Vijender Singh inquired if individuals have begun reducing their age to play cricket. This post occurred just two days after Suryavanshi made history, so it's safe to presume Vijender was referring to the Rajasthan Royals player.
“Bhai aaj kal umar choti ker ke cricket me bhe khelne lage (Have players started reducing their age in cricket too?)," Vijender wrote on X.
Vijender Singh's comments follow after some social media users questioned the age of Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who is the youngest player to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
