Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi has impressed one and all with his exploits in the ongoing IPL 2025, claiming 9 scalps in as many games at an average of 29.11 and an economy rate of 7.27.
However, the 25-year-old has been fined twice for his 'notebook celebration'. Two demerit points have also been added to his name.
Rathi made the notebook gesture after dismissing Priyansh Arya during a match against Punjab Kings earlier this month. The leg-spinner pulled off a similar celebration in the subsequent fixture against Mumbai Indians after taking the wicket of Naman Dhir.
Digvesh was fined 25 percent of his match fees for the first offence, while he copped 50 percent penalty for the second offence.
In an interaction with Sports Tak, Digvesh made a candid admission that his celebration has put him in the spotlight.
"I am in the limelight because of my celebration," he said, before revealing the pact he made with PBKS opener Priyansh.
"Priyansh and me are good friends. We had made a pact after talking to each other. He said that if I hit runs, I will do this and I said I will do this If I succeed against him. I just wrote his name on my notebook," he added.
After being fined twice, Digvesh Rathi modified his celebration by writing on the ground instead of his notebook gesture.
The LSG spinner said that he couldn't go against the rules of BCCI and hence decided to tweak his celebration.
"We can't go against the rules of BCCI. That's why I started writing on the ground," he remarked.
When asked about what he was writing in his notebook, Digvesh replied: "Can't tell what I am writing. Let that remain a secret."
For Digvesh, doing well for the side and following the instructions of LSG mentor Zaheer Khan and captain Rishabh Pant remain his topmost priority.
"My aim is to do well for my team. I do the work given to me by Rishabh Bhai (Rishabh Pant) and Zaheer Sir (Zaheer Khan). Whatever is happening is happening on its own. I am not doing anything new. I am doing the work given to me. When I joined the camp, Zaheer Bhai and Rishabh Pant had said that I am going to play from the very first match. They had told me to bowl the same way as I am bowling," he stated.
Digvesh Rathi also has the dream of playing for India but at the moment, he is focused on performing well for LSG.
