The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 witnessed a low-scoring thriller on Tuesday (April 15) in Mullanpur, where Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fell 16 runs short while Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) paltry target of 112.
During the chase, the defending champions were comfortably placed at 62/2 in the eighth over, but they suffered a sensational collapse to be bowled out for 95 in 15.1 overs.
Yuzvendra Chahal returned with the career-best tournament figures of 4-28, while Marco Jansen picked three scalps to script a thrilling win for the hosts. It was the lowest successfully defended total in IPL's history.
After the game, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane gave an honest analysis of his side's performance. While shaking hands with his PBKS counterpart Shreyas Iyer, Rahane admitted that his team's batting unit was pathetic on the day.
"Kya faltu batting kari humne (What a disastrous batting effort from us)," Rahane seemingly told Iyer, and the video of their interaction went viral on social media.

Speaking at the post-match presser, Ajinkya Rahane didn’t mince his words as he held the batters accountable for this shocking defeat.
"The wicket was good. It was not an unplayable wicket or that something was wrong," Rahane told reporters.
"The wicket was very good. The ball was coming a little late. But the bowlers did half of the work. Like you said, they were all out at 111. It was comparatively easy to chase at 112 on this wicket. We also got a good start. We got 50 in the Powerplay and at 70, I think we had 3 wickets. But again, it's a collective failure of the batting unit."
This was KKR’s fourth defeat in seven games this season. The reigning champions are languishing at sixth place on the 10-team points table.
Kolkata Knight Riders will next face Gujarat Titans at the Eden Gardens on Monday (April 21).
