Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) started their IPL 2025 on a losing note, as they were stunned by Delhi Capitals (DC) by 1 wicket. This clash happened at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on March 24, 2025.

David Miller hammered 29* in death overs as LSG posted 209/8 in 20 overs. Mitchell Starc took 3 wickets for DC, and Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets.
DC’s start was horrific losing 3 wickets for 7 runs. Faf du Plessis (29) and Axar Patel (22) steadied the ship and Tristan Stubbs (34) scored well, but DC was down and out at 113/6 in 12.3 overs.
Then Ashutosh Sharma (66* in 31 balls) and Vipraj Nigam (39 in 15 balls) added 55 runs in just 22 balls to bring DC back into the game. Ashutosh Sharma completed the match with some demolishing strokeplay as DC won the game by 1 wicket.
LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka addressed the squad in the dressing room following the season-opening setback.
"Lots of positives that I take away from this game in batting, in bowling. The way we had the powerplay in both innings was brilliant. These things happen. We are a young team, let's look at the positives, and look forward, from tomorrow to the 27th. And hopefully, we'll have a better result. Disappointing result (tonight), yes. But, great game. So, well done," Goenka stated in a video shared by LSG.
LSG will next face the high-scoring Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on March 27.
