The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL franchise owners are set to meet on July 31 to discuss retentions and other things ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. One of the most important things to be discussed will be the contentious impact player rule.
According to a one-page, five-point agenda shared with the franchise owners, the BCCI is looking for some sort of consensus on the 'Impact Player Rule' that has divided the cricket community in IPL.
As per the report, the meeting between BCCI and the franchise owners will take place on July 31 at 7:30 pm in the BCCI office on the fourth floor of the Wankhede Stadium Complex.
The 'Impact Player' regulation, implemented a few years ago, has inspired a lot of thought and controversy within the IPL ecosystem. While the playing and coaching communities are considered to be mainly opposed, broadcasters, who have invested over Rs 48,000 crore in the league, appear to be solidly in favor of continuing.
The BCCI appears undecided on the issue, which could explain why it has been included in the meeting schedule. While Board officials acknowledge that the regulation provides an opportunity for an additional Indian player, they are also concerned that it will hurt the development of all-rounders, who are critical to a team's success at any level of competition.
The report further stated that BCCI might even scrap the rule from the Syed Mushtaq Ali domestic T20 competition, where it was first trialed a couple of years ago.

A. Players Retention / Right to Match
B. Salary Cap (Auction Purse, Incremental Performance Pay & Match Fee)
C. Big Auction
D. Capped to uncapped players
E. Player Trade / Player Loan
The IPL franchise and the BCCI appear to be amenable to suggestions of offering year increases to a performing player. There is no mention of increasing the auction cycle from three to five.
