IPL 2024: “No audio was either recorded or broadcast,” IPL broadcaster clears air on Rohit Sharma's ‘breach of privacy’ post

Rohit had accused the IPL broadcaster of airing his private conversation.

Rohit Sharma | BCCI-IPLIPL broadcaster Star Sports has responded to India skipper Rohit Sharma’s social media post that accused them of breaching players’ privacy, stating that they had always adhered to “the highest standards of professional conduct”.

On Sunday (May 19), Rohit didn’t filter his words as he slammed Star Sports for showing a clip featuring him during the pre-match show ahead of Mumbai Indians’ (MI) final match of the season against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

“A clip involving a senior Indian player and his post on social media have gained prominence since yesterday. The clip, taken during a training session on May 16 at Wankhede stadium, for which Star Sports had authorised access, momentarily showed the senior player in conversation with his friends on the sidelines. No audio from this conversation was either recorded or broadcast. The clip, which only showed the senior player requesting for the audio of his conversation to not be recorded, got featured in Star Sports’ live coverage of pre-match preparations and lacked editorial relevance beyond this.

“Star Sports has always adhered to the highest standards of professional conduct while broadcasting cricket all over the world. Respect for players’ privacy while bringing fans, moments of intense action and preparations, sits at the core of this ethos, which the broadcaster remains committed to,” read an official statement from Star Sports.

In the video, Rohit was seen chatting with ex-Mumbai cricketer Dhawal Kulkarni and a couple of other individuals. He also pleaded with folded hands, urging the camerapersons to not record audio of their conversation.

Earlier this month, a video featuring former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma and Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach Abhishek Nayar took the internet by storm.

In the viral footage, the two could be heard talking about 'things changing'. When the video was about to finish, Rohit also said that "it's his last".

Though the conversation wasn’t clearly audible, fans speculated about Rohit potentially leaving MI ahead of the 2025 season.
