Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) met in the 53rd match of the IPL 2024 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on May 5.
Punjab Kings captain Sam Curran won the toss and decided to bowl first. PBKS played with the same team, while CSK substituted Mitchell Santner for Mustafizur Rahman, who went back to Bangladesh for national duty.
Ravindra Jadeja top-scored with 47 runs, while Ruturaj Gaikwad (32), and Daryl Mitchell (30) helped CSK post 167/9 in 20 overs. Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel picked three wickets each for Punjab.

In response, it was a poor batting performance for Punjab. Prabhsimran Singh (30) and Shashank Singh (27) were the only ones to cross the 25-run mark. Then Rahul Chahar (16) and Harpreet Brar (17*) helped PBKS avoid a huge defeat. Punjab finished on 139/9 and lost the game by 28 runs.
For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball as well finishing with figures of 3/20, while Tushar Deshpande and Simarjeet Singh took two scalps. CSK moved to the 3rd spot with this win and has 12 points from 6 wins in 11 games. PBKS remain at 8th spot with 8 points from 4 wins in 11 games.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for CSK and Ravindra Jadeja for a clinical win and lauded them on social media.
