Chennai Super Kings (CSK) seamer Deepak Chahar and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) speedster Mayank Yadav are unlikely to take any further part in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Both of them had to walk off the field in their team’s last games after sustaining injuries. On April 30, Mayank left the field after bowling 3.1 overs against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. It was his comeback match after missing out on five games due to abdominal soreness.
After the fixture, LSG head coach Justin Langer said that the 21-year-old is feeling “sore in the same spot” that kept him out of action for almost three weeks.
According to a report published in Cricbuzz, the young pace sensation is unlikely to return for the remainder of the season.
On the other hand, Deepak Chahar picked up a suspected hamstring injury earlier this week while bowling against Punjab Kings at Chepauk. He could bowl just two deliveries before walking off the field.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has shared a worrying update on Chahar, saying that while the right-arm pacer is still not out of the tournament, he is certainly doubtful.
"Deepak injury is not looking good. I will not say he is ruled out of the season but doubtful," Viswanathan quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
He also revealed that Chahar has not travelled to Dharamsala for CSK’s next game against Punjab Kings.
"He has stayed back in Chennai," Viswanathan confirmed. "We're waiting for a report from the medical team."
Earlier this week, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming had expressed concerns over Chahar’s injury, saying: "Deepak Chahar doesn't look good. Initial feeling wasn't great. So we are waiting for more positive report. Physio and doctors will have a look."
The defending champions are dealing with other injury concerns as well. Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande missed the last game against PBKS due to a niggle and flu respectively.
While both the players have traveled to Dharamsala, their availability for the reverse fixture against PBKS is still not confirmed.
"We will know about their availability only on Sunday," Viswanathan said.
CSK have also lost the services of left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman. The game against Punjab Kings on May 1 was his last of the season as he returned home to join the Bangladesh team for their ongoing five-T20I series against Zimbabwe.
