Russell made 7 runs in 2 balls including a six.

Andre Russell | IPL-BCCIThe 51st match of the IPL 2024 tournament between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is being played in Mumbai on May 3, 2024. The match is a life and death situation for the home team, who have lost 7 out of 10 matches.

Hardik Pandya, the MI captain won the toss and chose to bowl first. KKR tried to go with their aggressive batting plan, but it backfired for them. They were reduced to 57/5 in no time, with big guns like Phil Salt, Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, and Sunil Narine all falling for single-digit scores.

Venkatesh Iyer (70) and Manish Pandey (42) added 83 runs for the sixth wicket and helped KKR post 169 in 19.5 overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Nuwan Thushara picked three wickets each.

Much was expected from KKR finisher Andres Russell, and he started well by hitting a six but was smartly run out by Hardik Pandya.

It happened in the final ball of the 17th over of KKR's batting innings when Venkatesh Iyer executed the reverse sweep against the fuller delivery outside off but it was found the short third man.

As soon as the shot was played, Russell took off for a quick single and did not have his eyes on the fielder. Iyer, on the other hand, kept his eyes on the ball. He did take a few steps down the wickets, but quickly returned to position.

Russell immediately turned back and thought he had a chance to make ground with Thushara making a wide throw. But Hardik Pandya collected the throw, turned back, dived, and took the bails off with one hand to dismiss Russell for 7 off just 2.

Here is the video:

Russell was very angry at the way he was run out due to a mix-up between him and Iyer. Although Russell did not react initially as he rushed into the pavilion while the umpires looked on, he was spotted enraged as he climbed up the steps towards the pavilion, nearly slamming his bat on the Wankhede railing in frustration.
