Mumbai Indians (MI secured a thrilling final-over victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Thursday as the two sides squared-off in an IPL 2024 league match in Mullanpur.
MI was asked to bat first by PBKS captain Sam Curran and thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliant 78 and contributions by Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma, the team posted 192/7 in 20 overs.
In reply, PBKS top order was rattled by Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee as they were reduced to 77/6 in no time. Shashank Singh (41 in 25 balls) and Ashutosh Sharma banded together to try and pull off another rescue. Ashutosh was the highlight of the PBKS innings, scoring 61 in 28 balls with seven sixes and two fours.
However, he got out when PBKS needed 25 runs and though the rest of the tailenders tried their best, PBKS was bundled for 182 runs as MI won by 9 runs.

In the final over, with power-hitter Kagiso Rabada in the middle, Punjab were still in the game, needing 12 runs to win, before MI's former skipper Rohit Sharma decided to step in. Rohit can be seen animatedly telling Akash Madhwal what to do and what fields he should set.
In a viral video, Rohit Sharma and Madhwal are seen discussing strategy, when Hardik Pandya also chimed in with his inputs. However, Madhwal can be seen doing his best to ignore Pandya and intently listens to what Rohit Sharma says.
