IPL 2024: WATCH- Cummins doesn't appeal against Jadeja for 'obstructing the field'; Mohammad Kaif questions his motive

CSK was asked to bat first by SRH in Hyderabad and posted 165/5 in 20 overs.

Bhuvneshwar tried to run Jadeja out, but the batter came in between stumps and the throw | XSunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins showed great sportsmanship as he opted not to appeal against Ravindra Jadeja for an ‘Obstructing the field’ dismissal during the 18th match of the IPL 2024 tournament in Hyderabad on Friday.

Pat Cummins had won the toss and decided that SRH would bowl first. CSK lost Rachin Ravindra for 12 runs to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But Ruturaj Gaikwad (26) and Ajinkya Rahane (35) did well. But the best knock came from Shivam Dube as he slammed 45 in 24 balls with 4 sixes and 2 fours.

Then Ravindra Jadeja made 31* in 23 balls as CSK finished with 165/5 in 20 overs. For SRH, 5 bowlers picked one wicket each.

But Pat Cummins avoided a controversy from happening as in the 19th over Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a Yorker and Jadeja jammed the ball down on the ground.

On realizing that the batter was out of the crease, the bowler tried to throw the stumps down. However, Jadeja came in between the line of the throw and the ball hit him. SRH keeper Heinrich Klaasen suggested that Jadeja had deliberately come in between the throw and the stumps.

However, Pat Cummins, the SRH skipper, did not appeal.

Meanwhile, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif wondered why Cummins didn’t appeal. He asked if it was a ploy to let Jadeja, who was struggling in the middle continue. And whether Cummins would’ve done the same if it was Virat Kohli in a T20 World Cup match.

Kaif posted on X: “Two questions to Pat Cummins on withdrawing the obstructing the field appeal against Jadeja. Was it a tactical call to let a struggling Jadeja be the crease and keep Dhoni indoors? Would he have done the same if it was Virat Kohli at World T20?”
