IPL 2024: KKR’s home match against RR on April 17 likely to get rescheduled due to this reason

The BCCI is contemplating on either altering the venue for the match or rescheduling it to a different date.

KKR versus RR match is scheduled for April 17 at the Eden Gardens | BCCI-IPLThe IPL 2024 fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), scheduled for April 17 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, is in doubt.

According to a report published in Cricbuzz, the BCCI is contemplating on either altering the venue for the match or rescheduling it to a different date.

The likelihood of relocation or change of dates is owing to Ram Navami festivities. Since it is a nationwide festival, the concerned authorities are not sure if they can provide full security for the game at the Eden Gardens.

Moreover, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will start from April 19 onwards across the country. Therefore, the Indian board might consider postponing the match.

The report further claimed that the BCCI and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) are in contact with the Kolkata police. While the board is yet to make an official call, the two franchises and the broadcasters have been made aware of the situation.

The BCCI will face serious headache in that case, having recently announced the complete fixtures for the tournament. The fixtures of 21 matches were unveiled initially while the schedule for remaining 53 games were announced after the official release of the general election dates.

"The discussions are on with the police authorities and we will take a decision soon," Cricbuzz quoted a top IPL official as saying.

Kolkata Knight Riders are currently leading the points table after winning two out of two matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals are holding the third spot in the team standings despite also winning both their matches versus Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals.
