Delhi Capitals (DC), who had lost their first two matches in IPL 2024, finally got off the mark on the points table with a convincing 20-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Vizag, their adopted home ground for two matches this season.

Delhi Capitals posted a formidable total of 191/6 after electing to bat first with David Warner (52), Prithvi Shaw (43), and skipper Rishabh Pant (51) playing important knocks for the hosts. The total could have been higher but for Matheesha Pathirana, who took three wickets.

In reply, CSK's batting line-up was stifled by the DC bowlers who bowled to their fields and ensured the required run-rate kept mounting with the fall of wickets regularly. Khaleel Ahmed (2/21) and Mukesh Kumar (3/21) were the most successful bowlers for DC.

The game seemed to have slipped out of the hands of CSK when former captain MS Dhoni came out to bat for the first time in the ongoing season with 72 runs still needed in 23 balls.

Dhoni was dropped on 4 by Khaleel Ahmed, and thereafter the 42-year-old decided to rewind the clock by bringing out his vintage shots. While the equation had become near impossible, Dhoni's unbeaten 37 off 16 balls reduced the margin of defeat to 20 runs and provided a lot of joy to his fans on the ground and all over the country.

His wife Sakshi reacted to his knock summing up the sentiments of the fans immediately after the match, but she also made a special mention for Rishabh Pant, who struck a half-century in just his third match since making a comeback after 15 months following a horrific car accident.
